Some people refer to this as ‘The Graf Spee’,which was the name of an old World War I German ship. However, Seamus Ennis always insisted that the tune was of Scottish origin and named after an old Scottish river, the Grand Spae. Recently, I’ve heard a newly discovered recording of Michael Coleman playing it with four parts!
