The late Paddy O’Brien of Newtown, Co. Tipperary, composed this and recorded it in the early 1970s on a 45 rpm with fiddler Seamus Connolly and Charlie Lennon playing piano accompaniment. Their record is known as ‘The Banks of the Shannon.’ Paddy named his tune after the local landscape of north Tipperary.
