    The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance.     Irish-based donors can see their donations augmented by the State through the CHY3 form, which makes any donation above €250 worth €362.33 towards ITMA’s archival work, at no additional cost to you.

    ITMA is eligible for 501(c)3 donations, so for potential donors based in the USA, donating to ITMA can be a tax efficient way of making more and more archival material accessible to remote users.

    I composed this and later named it after my father, Christy O’Brien. One of the many things I remember about him was his expertise with a slane or slean. He was an artist at cutting turf with me as the forkman loading a wheelbarrow for delivery and final spreading on fresh grass for drying.
    He told me a funny story about a neighbor who couldn’t handle a slean. Instead, he used a hoe! This inadequate choice of cutting tool became the cause of laughter all the way across our turf banks and people were mystified by the very idea of a hoe in the bog.
