This was a popular rallying cry from of southeast Leinster men during the 1798 rising. The O’Byrnes of Co. Wicklow are especially associated with the rally cry in the words to a song of that name by P. J. MacColl commemorating a victory over the English at Glenmclure in 1580. As a reel I have heard very few play it, except for Eleanor Kane Neary, whose staccato style on piano suited it surprisingly well.
