The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
It must have been quite a sight when tarred roads were introduced to remote parts of Ireland, especially to people who were used to gravel tracks with pot holes fit for the swimming pleasures of ducks and drakes. The title of this reel may have been inspired by such comfort for country travel. Paddy Fahey is credited with rearranging this tune, which was a largely ignored member of the O’Neill collection. It’s another reel I learned from accordion player John Bowe.
