Lumcloon, Co. Offaly banjo player Seamus Egan, who played this tune, often remarked that its title didn’t make much sense because he never saw a bog in motion. This is from a man who has lived beside and worked the sodden surfaces of bogs throughout his career. The shaky nature of the heathery plains are suspect to the feet of man and animal alike. The title of the tune encompasses a subtle warning to one who would seek the abode of fox and hare.
