The name of this came from Tommy White, who was a founding member of the old Ballinakill Céilí Band. The tune is also an old favorite of the band, whose repertoire tended toward such tunes learned from contemporary east Co. Galway musicians during the 1930s and 1940s. I first heard it played by local musicians from near the Daingean area of Co. Offaly when I was a boy.
