    The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance.     Irish-based donors can see their donations augmented by the State through the CHY3 form, which makes any donation above €250 worth €362.33 towards ITMA’s archival work, at no additional cost to you.

    There was a rumor around Chicago during the days of Captain Francis O’Neill that a certain Father Tom placed a drinking bet with a doubtful parishioner, with a promise of luring The Tailor Maguire back to Sunday mass. It appears that Maguire hadn’t attended a church meeting since he emigrated from Ireland some twenty years earlier. Soon afterwards, Maguire was seen receiving communion at one of Father Tom’s services. The loser of the bet never found out what method of persuasion the holy father used in convincing Maguire of his spiritual value. This jig was doing the rounds among Chicago musicians at the
    time without anyone having a title for it – that is, until the tricky priest won his wager.
