The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
I also learned this four-part jig from Patrick Ourceau, who learned it from the flute playing of Jack Coen of Co. Galway. ‘Gallant Tipperary’ was a very popular melody in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was used by Thomas Moore as the air for his song, ‘The Young May Moon’, and appears in a number of written sources, including the O’Neill and Roche collections.
