I got interested in the melody of this from hearing Liam Weldon (of Ballyfermot in Dublin) sing its song version. After some years of chewing on it, I came across Joe Cooley’s playing of it on a recording. The impact of hearing Joe left me with little doubt about the strength of the tune.
