Bill was an accordion player from Co. Leitrim, but he lived most of his life in Dublin where he was a member of the Dublin Metropolitan Police. He first heard this tune played on the Scottish pipes by a member of a British regiment. Bill learned some of the tune and made up what he couldn’t remember. I heard him say that he almost joined the British Army so as he could get this jig from the piper. He followed this remark by saying how he was so struck by the beauty of the tune.
