Willie Clancy introduced this one, which he played on both whistle and pipes. Stropping the razor was done with one end of a leather belt tied sometimes to a door handle. With one hand it was pulled tight, while the other hand held an old ‘cutthroat’ razor. The idea was to sharpen the razor against the leather belt by rubbing the blade back and forth, back and forth, etc. I used to see it done and tried whetting it as an experiment. Result? It works!
