The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
I learned this from the Garda Metropolitan band, who were often featured on Raidio Éireann’s ‘Take the Floor’ programme. The ‘show’ was compered by Din Joe, an amiable Corkman who would refer to the polka as ‘Take the Floor’. This was Irish radio during the mid 1950s and the source of much of our home entertainment.
