The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
The title of this one is from a dandling song, which was sung to calm a small child sitting on its mother’s lap. Dandling songs were common during the 17th and 18th centuries in Ireland and particularly in Scotland. As a dance tune, this one can be traced to many counties in Ireland.
