The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
This, in its original form, was a song that was introduced during the 1940s and 50s by Elizabeth Cronin (1876-1955) of west Co. Cork, which is an Irish-speaking area known as a Gaeltacht. Mrs. Cronin was well known for introducing songs such as ‘Lord Gregory’ and ‘The Kangaroo’. I learned the tune setting from local musicians Brian Miller, flute, and Nathan Gourley, fiddle.
