The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
This one is a piping tune long associated with 17th-century Munster piping. It is also played as part of a long, descriptive piece of music that glorifies the Battle of Knockinoss (also known as the Battle of Cnoc na nDos, November 13, 1647) and in closing laments the assassination of a general who led the Irish side, a Scotsman whose name was Allistrum, or Sir Alastair ‘Colkitto’ MacDonald.
