Translated into English this title means ‘Dark Rosaleen’, referring to a dark-haired young woman. It gained a lot of respect and recognition during the 1960s when it was presented as the theme tune for a film called, ‘Mise Éire’ (I am Ireland) a documentary about Irish history, which was inspired by a Pádraig Pearse poem of the same title. The entire musical arrangement and score was the work of Sean Ó Riada. A recording of the ‘Mise Éire’ film score became a bestselling LP.
