The widely sung song ‘The Jug of Punch’ tells us much about its demand at old house parties and wakes. Any delays when passing the jug around might be a reason for impatience or scorn among those inflicted with severe thirst. I learned this from the fiddle playing duet of Clare men Joe Ryan and John Kelly.
