This tune was originally played as a clan march and is reputed to have been played by the pipers of Fiach McHugh O’Byrne’s army at the battle of Glenmalure in 1580. O’Byrne’s army having defeated 3,000 English troops was part of a second Desmond RebelIion of that year.
