A very fine group of musicians came together in Dublin back in the 1980s. They called themselves Baker’s Well, and joined together to raise funds for the Dublin pipers’ club, Na Píobairí Uilleann. The group included Seán Potts (whistle), Seán Óg Potts (uilleann pipes), Kevin Glackin (fiddle), John Kelly the younger (fiddle), John McEvoy (fiddle), Mick Hand (flute), Nóirín O’Donoghue (harp) and Steve Cooney (guitar and keyboard). The very first tune I heard them play was O’Carolan’s ‘Madam Maxwell’, which is how I got to know the tune.
