This a reel dedicated to a great friend of ours in Ennis who passed away this year, Liam Murphy. A wonderful singer and guitar player, his innate rhythm was a constant driver of sessions and his sense of humour a constant source of joy.

Ballybeg Woods is a beautiful spot on the outskirts of Ennis for a walk and a bit of reflection.

I was teaching this tune to Patricia Clark one day and it was nameless at the time. We decided on the name after she relayed a hilarious story about their family dog at the time.

This tune simply got its title as it presented itself to me fully formed. It was recorded by the band Fidil on their 2019 recording, Decade, and they kindly allowed us to include the track here.

Best of friends is the third of these slip jigs and signals a resolution to sockgate.

Give me patience is a follow up to odd socks… I think the title is pretty self-explanatory.

Odd socks got it’s title from a row between my two daughters when they were very small over a pair of socks. The more indignant of the two’s argument was that she had worn them the previous day!

The keeper of the spring is a tune written in memory of Anthony (Tony) Moylan, a mighty man from Kinvara, Co. Galway. In an amazing eulogy at his funeral, the priest likened him to the title describing him as a man that invigorated the locality by starting a soccer club, Cruinnuí na mBád and the Cuckoo Fleadh to name but a few.

The singing snail got it’s title from a collage on a wall upstairs in a teaching room in Custy’s Music Shop in Ennis, Co. Clare. Aisling McInerney was a student at the time and we got great fun putting a sticker of a leaf on a sticker of a snail. It looked like it had huge lips and we wondered if snails could sing?

Raised in Clare, Siobhán Peoples has been involved in music in the community from the age of 11. Siobhán’s musical history is a combination of Donegal, through her father, Tommy, and Clare, through her grandmother, Kitty Linnane, who was the pianist with the original Kilfenora Ceili Band. Raised in Clare, she has been involved in music in the community from the age of 11. Discovering the expansive fiddle music of Donegal in her mid-teens led her to take a different approach to the fiddle and she became immersed in the vastly different style and repertoire of the county. She has been a tutor in the University of Limerick for the past 20 years and enjoys teaching all over Ireland and Europe.
