    The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance.     Make your donation go further: a donation of €250 or more in any tax year is worth an additional 44.93% to ITMA. So for €50 more, ITMA can claim an additional €112.33 tax back from revenue.

    Irish-based donors can see their donations augmented by the State through the CHY3 form, which makes any donation above €250 worth €362.33 towards ITMA’s archival work, at no additional cost to you.

    Pádraic Mac Mathúna’s Monthly Picks | November 2025

    This month, courtesy of Felix Dolan’s (1937–2013) collection, we re-visit Seán Maguire (1927–2005), from a private recording made in Chicago 1958, when Seán was touring with a group in the US. As I mentioned last month, this is ‘early Maguire’, in full control of his instrument, with virtuosity on display in a selection of reels and hornpipes. His Rakish Paddy (3 parts) in particular, is a brilliant example of the skill, taste and dynamism of a young man already reaching his prime.
