Frank McCollum of Co. Antrim informed me that this is an old Co. Antrim tune. He had a story about two fiddlers who had a dispute about the tune. One had the first part and the other ‘old boy’ had the second part. And neither would give his part to the other. Both ‘old boys’ pretended they had all of the tune until they were stricken at a dance in Ballycastle by friends who overpowered them both with a feed of poitín. When the effect of the ‘craythur’ took hold, a remarkable change in each one’s demeanor occurred, with much generosity breaking forth. When the night concluded, both fiddlers had the tune.
