The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
The title of this carries with it the old tradition of honoring someone from olden days-perhaps a person who excelled when compelled to ‘take the floor.’ This tune may have been a favorite in choice for dancing or possibly inspired the dancer to the limits of footwork or exhibition. It’s an old slip jig played in Chicago during its heyday of music in the early 1900s.
