This west Co. Clare player was the mother of John Kelly, and James Kelly’s grandmother. It is fitting that she is remembered through the title of this tune and several others because her tunes reflect wonderful old melody making for both listening and dancing. John Kelly later was heard to say, “There was great gaiety in the countryside in those days”.
