    The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance.     Make your donation go further: a donation of €250 or more in any tax year is worth an additional 44.93% to ITMA. So for €50 more, ITMA can claim an additional €112.33 tax back from revenue.

    Irish-based donors can see their donations augmented by the State through the CHY3 form, which makes any donation above €250 worth €362.33 towards ITMA’s archival work, at no additional cost to you.

    Fair days were held in almost every town in Ireland during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The tune title was probably inspired by the sight of a local horseman riding on his way to such an event. The tune was once a must among solo hard-shoe dancers who challenged one another at dancing competitions.
