This is a slow air for the harp that O’Carolan composed after he heard of the death of McDonagh, who in fact was one of the very few Catholic lawyers, and defended his fellow Catholics in court. These were people accused of petty offenses, and McDonagh’s intervention saved many of them from transportation or worse.
