This is the very first tune that O’Carolan composed. It was while he played at the home of George Reynolds that the squire advised young O’Carolan to try his skill at composing. It was then that he composed this tune, which was based on a local legend about a war between two fairy armies. Squire Reynolds liked the tune so much that he encouraged the young harper to try his talents at composing instead of playing contemporary tunes.
