The O’ NeiIls of Ulster were long standing members of the old Gaelic order in Ireland, and many pieces of music were composed in memory of their military victories or losses. In song and story, Owen Roe O’Neill is remembered as one of Ireland’s greatest generals and is also immortalized in poetry and harp compositions, such as the slow air ‘The Lament for Owen Rua’.
