This reel sounds like it was composed by the creator of ‘The Earl’s Chair’ because of the mood of the tune and the choice of notes and phrasing. However, since both tunes are so very old we probably will never know. At one time it was a big tune with followers of the TuIla Ceilí Band, which I believe set the standard for its general appeal. Piper Felix Doran once said he got more money for playing this reel than all the others put together.
