Roscommon flute player Matt Molloy popularized this reel, which is one of Junior Crehan’s fiddle contributions. There is a story connected with this reel that tells of a shape-changing trout who evicted an otter from its den. Every day, on the otter’s return to rest, he found a mermaid in his abode. One very hot summer when the pond dried up, both were found dead lying beside each other, and the trout had taken the shape of a female otter.
