    The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance.     Irish-based donors can see their donations augmented by the State through the CHY3 form, which makes any donation above €250 worth €362.33 towards ITMA’s archival work, at no additional cost to you.

    ITMA is eligible for 501(c)3 donations, so for potential donors based in the USA, donating to ITMA can be a tax efficient way of making more and more archival material accessible to remote users.

    Before the advent of the automobile, the blacksmith trade was a prevalent occupation. Because of the nature of their work, it’s said that most of these men were endowed with great patience, and in some cases they stood out as charismatic individuals sought after for advice. They are often remembered with tune titles such as this. I first heard it played by Joe Delaney of Edenderry, Co. Offaly when I was a teenager.
