One winter’s day in DubIin during 1970, I was walking along the quays area beside the River Liffey. It was then I spotted an antique shop. I went in and noticed some 78 rpm recordings. One was a record of Donegal fiddler Hughie Gillespie. I took the recording home and played it. As I listened, I was uplifted by the sound of this jig, followed by Hughie’s setting of ‘The Rose of Lough Gill.’ I learned later that Michael Coleman also recorded it.
