The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
I’ve known this for so long that I can only remember dozens of times it was played on radio by the many céilí bands of the 1950s and 60s. I cannot pinpoint any particular settings of it except the way Joe Cooley played and coaxed the tune into his own formidable style of expression. Cooley could charm some of the old worn-out tunes and give them new life, as he did with this.
