When in 1969 I first heard the Donegal fiddle music of John Doherty, I became deeply curious because it was a style of music that probed my consciousness and opened many musical possibilities for me. This four-part slip jig was the first jig I heard John play, and the sound of his playing of it still stays with me to the point that I still learn something from it-not its note structure, but its profound depth of feeling.
