There are lots of little stories about the Sligo fiddler and recording artist Michael Coleman. I was told that he was playing at a function in New York when he was at the height of his career. A woman spotted Coleman as he was playing and apparently liked what she saw and heard. She quickly asked a friend of Coleman’s whether he was available. The friend went over to where Coleman was sitting and whispered into his ear: “There’s a nice-looking woman sitting across from you and she wants to know if you are available”. Coleman gave her a quick look and said to his friend, “Tell her I am”. He later recorded the jig with the above title.
