Publishing in San Francisco, T.C. Boyd published a number of airs throughout the 1860s in the midst of the American Civil War. In addition to music, T.C. Boyd was additionally a ‘designer and engraver on wood’, with published airs aiding in the development of an an emergent Irish-American identity. Songs originating in the west coast of the United States such as ‘The Doony Song’ intersect American and Irish national pride, in which the American boxing hero ‘Tommy of Californi’ defeats Doony, a boxer from London.
