The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
This project is co-funded by Ireland’s Department of Culture, Communications & Sport and Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade as part of America 250.
Across the States: An Irish Cultural Atlas of America is a major new online exhibition from ITMA exploring Irish music in the U.S. This project is a central part of Ireland’s America250 commemorative programme marking the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence
The map features archival audio, video and visual materials across all 50 U.S. states, documenting not only the history of Irish music in the U.S., but also the living tradition that continues to grow and thrive today.
The map also includes special features to help users better navigate the vast amount of information it stores, including bespoke short documentaries curated by ITMA, which present unique and compelling stories of Irish music in America.
