I believe it was on my grandfather’s gramophone that I first heard this played on a 78 rpm recording. I may have been four or five at the time, but somehow the melody of this tune stayed with me for years. It was played on a melodeon, by someone who had two parts for the tune. I later found that it was the original version. Some years ago, I extended the tune with a further two parts of my own.
